I work with watercolour and ink very often. I like the fluidity and unpredictability of these mediums. These qualities make work very intuitive and somehow accidental. You work quickly as the pigments settle into forms. You have to learn to read what's happening and influence or direct it as much as you can. It all happens fast so you have to be very present and attentive. I love that.
I'm also happy to accept accidents in art. They lead you to amazing discoveries.
I often work laying layers and washes of watercolour on papers that I leave around the studio, sometimes for months. Then this piece reappears at some point and I see something or feel like I can add something that brings new interpretations to the piece. This addition is very often line drawing in ink or pencil on top.
Composition is very important for me too -and that is sometimes sort of difficult to balance with accidents and unpredictability. I guess I have learnt to go with my instinct and finding out the composition I like as I go.
I find very difficult to repeat pieces. I always tend to like better the first attempt. It's always fresher.
Because of my background in architecture I approach my work from design and composition. Because of my love of literature and philosophy, stories and ideas are a constant source of inspiration.
